SONs Revving up the Irish Tunes

As Saint Patty’s day approaches, the SONs are working hard on a 3-set series of songs made up of some classics but heavily weighted by some of the more modern Irish songs. The Flogging Molly’s, Decemberists hits, the Pogue’s and other of the more recent musical covers¬†will be heard on St Patty’s day at the GastroPub in Carleton Place.

Revisiting these sometimes fast strumming songs means a lot of practice to get the wrists going strong. One set of celtic tunes can sometimes mean guitarists, drummers and singers alike get fatigued. We are designing the sets to have a combination of up tempo and slower, more rhythmic tunes to ease the strain on the band. Our set list so far includes some classics like:

  • Factory Girls
  • Down by the Henry Moore
  • Dirty old Town
  • St Swithin’
  • Peace of Iona
  • Raggle Taggle Gypsy
  • The Irish Rover
  • Farewell to Nova Scotia
